Indonesia, Asia’s largest archipelago, is made up of more than 13,000 islands stretching across a vast and diverse landscape. The island of Java is home to many of the country’s main hubs, including the capital city Jakarta, as well as Bogor and Surabaya. A former Dutch colony, Indonesia has been independent since 1945 and offers a rich blend of culture, history, and stunning scenery.
For golfers, Bogor stands out as Indonesia’s hidden gem. Nestled in the foothills south of Jakarta, Bogor’s elevated location offers a cooler, more temperate climate — ideal for golf year-round. The area is surrounded by lush tropical forest and dramatic mountain views, making it one of the most picturesque golfing destinations in Southeast Asia. Bogor is home to some of Indonesia’s finest golf courses, with world-class designs by the likes of Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Jack Nicklaus, all framed by misty peaks and vibrant greenery. It’s the perfect escape from Jakarta’s bustle — just an hour’s drive away yet offering an entirely different atmosphere.
Jakarta remains the most common starting point for Indonesian golf holidays, with its array of international flights and modern courses, while Surabaya offers another strong option with its blend of championship golf and rich Javanese culture.
At the moment, we don’t recommend Bali for golf due to a lack of course variety compared to other Indonesian destinations like Bogor and Java.
