Phnom Penh is the capital city of Cambodia, set at the meeting point of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers. The city was important during both the Khmer Empire and French Colonial times, due to its access to the rivers and ability to get further afield. These days, Phnom Penh has started to be slightly more modern, with a vibrant pub street, some excellent walking routes with parks along the river, as well as some excellent historical spots to visit such as the Royal Palace, National Museum and Silver Pagoda all in the heart of town. Phnom Penh on its own may not be ideal, and we recommend combining it with Siem Reap, or another of South East Asia’s fantastic golf and culture destinations.

As for golf in Phnom Penh, there are two excellent golf courses in the city – Garden City Golf Club and the new Faldo-designed Vattanac Resort. Couple the golf with some excursions to The Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum, and each golfer will go away with a great golf and culture experience in Phnom Penh.

Vattanac Golf Resort

This golf club is home to a stunning 18 hole golf course, with another being built  and is the latest addition to golf in Cambodia.  Opened for play in 2019 and is a classic Faldo design with wild grasses and risk reward strategies off most tees.  Nice touch to have the 3 iconic miniature replicas of marvels of Khmer architecture: Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple, and Preah Vihear Temple on the way round.

Garden City Golf Club

Opened in 2013 and one of the top golf clubs in Phnom Penh. The par-72 layout is spread over 240 acres and is situated about 20 kms northeast of Phnom Penh. The course is managed by IMG and is a great design and the playing conditions are immaculate.

Grand Phnom Penh Golf Course

Nicklaus design and not too far from the City centre. It’s a private members course and challenges golfers of all levels.

Killing Fields and Toul Sleng Museum (incl. Killing Fields, Toul Sleng Museum)

Choeung Ek is the site of a former orchard and mass grave of victims of the Khmer Rouge about 17 kilometres south of the Phnom Penh city centre. It is the best-known of the sites known as The Killing Fields, where the Khmer Rouge regime executed over one million people between 1975 and 1979. Also recommended to visit the Genocide Museum on the same day.
