Where To Golf In Hua Hin?
You may be considering a trip to Hua Hin, but wonder where to golf in Hua Hin? Well, we here at Asia Golf Experiences has the low-down on where to play golf in Hua Hin, and a bit more information about each course. There is a good variety of courses to choose from, all of which are no more than a 30 minute drive from the center of Hua Hin, so it really is the perfect destination for golf!
Pineapple Valley Golf Club
Designed by Golf East, Pineapple Valley is a true championship golf course, well designed on natural terrain with tough undulating greens. Measuring 7,300 yards off the back tees is not recommended for the holiday golfer. We suggest the White markers, and enjoy some lovely views on the way round especially the Signature 15th hole with sea views of Singtoh Island.
Generally known to have the best caddies in Hua Hin and it’s a very well run club. Nothing better than enjoying a cool one in Mulligans Pub after golf, overlooking the course with the mountains of Myanmar in the distance.
Black Mountain Golf Club
Black Mountain Golf Club is the highest rated golf course in Thailand by Golf Digest, ranking in the Top 100 courses outside the USA in 2012. Black Mountain Golf Club has hosted many tournaments including two European Tour events, and you really get the feel you arriving at somewhere special as you make your way up the drive to the golf course
Now boasting 27 holes with the additional West course replacing the Par 3 course, it truly is a golf mecca. Most visitors still prefer East / North championship combination but the West course is quickly carving out a good reputation for itself. The villas around the course make it a resort option with a top class spa. An all round excellent experience and the golf course is generally in the best condition of any course along the coast, whilst boasting the best practice facilities in Thailand.
Majestic Creek Country Club
This 27 hole gem is located in the hills west of Hua Hin and is about a 35 minute drive from the centre of Hua Hin. Majestic Creek Country Club has made many improvements to the course and facilities over the past two years, with attention paid to course condition and a locker room refurbishment.
Courses A & B tend to be the most popular, however we recommend trying course C. There are some spectacular holes on a very interesting and memorable layout. Not to be forgotten however, is the 9th hole on the B course, which is one of the more memorable finishing holes in Hua Hin.
Springfield Royal Country Club
A long established favourite in Hua Hin, Springfield Royal Country Club has 27 holes, with the A / B courses being the original Jack Nicklaus design. The A / B combination is highly recommended, while being one of the most mature designs in Hua Hin.
In many peoples eyes, Springfield Royal Country Club is the best designed course in the area and is a true test of being able to hit the ball with a draw or a fade to make the best possible score. Water comes into play on the last 6 holes, and the island green par five 18th means your score isn’t safe until you have negotiated this. Springfield Royal Country Club has the most experienced caddies of all the courses, and they are a big help to get you round and read the greens.
Lake View Resort and Golf Club
Lake View Resort and Golf Club is located around 35 minutes from the centre of Hua Hin and is a 36 hole venue designed by Roger Packard and Donald Fream. The A / B is the best combination and the original parkland design and is a regular stop on the Asian Tour for their Q School. Lake View has suffered in recent years with the lack of water, but a new Greens Keeper has seen the course get back to somewhere near its best and is very good value at affordable rates.
Palm Hills Golf Club
Palm Hills Golf Club is another old favourite, located next to Hua Hin International Airport and one of the closest to the centre of Hua Hin. Palm Hills does get busy with members in the high season, which is worth noting, while four and a half hour rounds are not uncommon. The golf course is definitely worth playing. It is set in some beautiful scenery and is easy on the eyes. Don’t let that fool you however, as the severely undulating Palm Hills greens mean three putts can be rampant. It is quite a long golf course, and the last few holes play quite long into the prevailing winds off the hills, providing for a great finish.
Sea Pines Golf Club
Sea Pines Golf Club is only 3 kilometers from the centre of Hua Hin which is ideal on a day where you may have other plans around the golf. Sea Pines is also known as the Army Course as it is managed by the Thai Army, and is one of only a few courses in Thailand that play along the ocean, with wonderful sea views.
The last 6 holes here are as good as anything in Hua Hin but it’s not always in the best condition. We recommend playing preferred lies when playing Sea Pines, just to ensure the ultimate experience. Despite its up-and-down condition, Sea Pines is still a lovely experience with its great ocean views on the closing stretch of holes and well appointed clubhouse, which has outstanding views of Monkey Mountain and the gorgeous, unspoiled beach.
Royal Hua Hin Golf Club
Royal Hua Hin is the oldest golf course in Thailand, having been built in 1924 by the Scottish Railway workers. It has stood the test of time and is still as popular as ever with the locals. Located in the centre of the Hua Hin next to the Hua Hin Railway Station, it retains all the charm of days gone by. Watch out for the monkeys on the closing holes too! The overall condition doesn’t attract many international golfers, but it is unique due to its history and a good test of golf.
