Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is on South East Asia’s north west coast and is bordered by Thailand to the east. Myanmar is in the infancy of its economic development and is still very much a country that operates around time-tested traditions and ways of life. The major center is Yangon, where most international flights arrive to and depart from. The country is made up of over 100 ethnic groups, each with its own dialect, customs and ways of living. Myanmar was a British colony until independence in 1948. The country is known for its important Buddhist temples and landmarks, and it has some of the most ancient temples in the region which are fantastic to see and visit.
Like a lot of Myanmar, golf is just getting started, though they do have a few fantastic courses with more on the way. A visit to Myanmar really is a visit for culture, history and golf, as opposed to just a golf holiday. The golf courses that have recently been brought on are very well designed and in very good condition with international facilities.
