Cambodia, located between Thailand to the west and Vietnam to the east, is an up-and-coming tourist country with many interesting historical and cultural spots, as well as some excellent golf. Cambodia has two major cities – the capital Phnom Penh, and the cultural capital Siem Reap. Each city is unique in atmosphere and attractions, and if golfers have time it is great to combine both cities in one Cambodia golf holiday.
Cambodia’s main attraction is its religious history. Siem Reap is home to the famous Angkor Wat temple complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 12th century. This is the largest religious monument in the world, and it is utterly spectacular to see, and explore. There are also other spots for learning Cambodia’s history throughout the country, such as the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh and the War Museum Cambodia in Siem Reap, which pay particular attention to the civil war that took place in Cambodia.
As far as Cambodia golf is concerned, the first course was only built as recently as 1996 so it’s still a relatively new sport. New projects are being built and both the main cities have quality golf options and our recommendation is a visit of 3 to 5 nights in either Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
The best time to visit Cambodia is from November to May, as the monsoon season is from June to October.
